Superfood swaps for diet intolerance/allergies
May 17th to 23rd 2015 marks Food Allergy Week in Australia. The stats tell us ÔÇ£Australia has one of the highest reported incidences of food allergies in the world, and the numbers are growing at an alarming rate. In fact 1 in 10 babies born in Australia today will develop a food allergy.ÔÇØ (Food Allergy Aware, May 2015)
Our awareness and understanding of food allergies is crucial, so too is the ability to find and provide appropriate alternatives for foods which cause an allergic response in the body. The team at Bioglan, work hard to source and bring to us incredibly nutritious options and a means to improve our diet with superfoods. Here are some great Superfood options for those who might be suffering allergies to certain foods.
Chia: ever heard of the chia egg? It’s rad and works a treat for those bakers and pancake makers out there that can’t tolerate the egg component. It goes a little something likeÔǪ 1 tablespoon Bioglan Superfoods Chia Seeds soaked in 3 tablespoons water for 15 minutes. Use one chia egg where once an egg was required. Easy!
Brown Rice Protein: whilst smoothies are all the rage, lactose is not for some and can cause severe reactions and digestive discomfort. So Bioglan Superfoods Brown Rice Protein has your protein, (plus vitamins and minerals) sorted to boost your smoothie blend where milk proteins or whey protein blends once stood. My favourite is Bioglan SuperFoods Cacao Brown Rice Proteininsanely good!
Coconut Oil: is a hit pick in health and life generally, coconut oil is the best alternative for butter in those who suffer allergies to dairy. Bioglan Superfoods Coconut Oil is also a rich source of medium chain fatty acids which convert to energy as they are metabolised instead of being stored as fat. Use as your butter alternative in sauteed foods, baked goods, on toast and more.
Coconut Sugar : although sugar is not a common food allergy as such it is worth mentioning in the speak of food swaps. Bioglan Superfoods has very recently introduced Coconut Sugar to the family and boy is it a winner. Coconut sugar is a wonderful alternative for refined sugars (raw, caster, brown, white) in all manners of cooking but is totally awesome for baked goods. You’ll see we’ve had good fun with it in lots of our baked recipes using Bioglan Superfoods!
