How to achieve Optimal Nutrition
I remember sitting in a nutrition lecture in my first semester of study and learning the 101 of food. We were asked to do a little exercise, which was to write down all the foods we had eaten that day and then count how many ingredients had comprised our daily diet. Needless to say, there were some pretty interesting results. You see at this point in time we were rookies. Eager to learn but hadn’t quite understood the ins and outs just yet. Our lecturer commented that in a day we would ultimately want to see about 30 different whole food ingredients in our diet to really optimize our nutrition. Most of us were lucky to hit 15 or 20. How things have changed.
Diversity and balance are two very important concepts in nutrition. Ultimately we want to eat all the colours of the (wholefoods) rainbow on a daily basis and create meals that offer a variety of nutrition in their ingredients. This is balance.
Diversity is what many struggle with. Let me paint the pictureÔǪrise and eat fruit with yoghurt or eggs on toast, snack on a cracker or biscuit mid morning with a coffee, lunch might be tuna salad, the afternoon pick me up again a little something sweet, dinner take away or chicken and vegetables. Most days of the week this is how it is played. It sounds healthy and for the most part (with the exception of a few tweaks here and there) is, but eating the same thing for 4-5 days out of the week isn’t diversifying our choices in food.
Superfoods have been a key ingredient to improving, enhancing and diversifying the nutrition in my diet and many others. Just a sprinkle here and there of different superfoods can greatly increase the nutrition in your day. It’s as simple as that. Better still is being able to do it and have the nutrition thought and created for you, which is where Bioglan Boosters come in to play.
